Service business development manager Leigh Smith said awareness of domestic violence and support services was “extremely important.”
“If you have a look at the number of referrals coming through for police attendances compared to the number of charges brought before the courts it shows a huge gap in information allowing for either prosecution or proving domestic violence has occurred,” he said.
“It gives people who are (a) witness encouragement to report. It sets a standard of behaviour acceptable to society
“It provides the correct information for victims that has the potential to save lives.”
“There is support out there. White Ribbon is traditionally about Female Victims as it should be due to levels and lethality of Domestic Violence perpetrated against women, but there is support available for both men and women. Don’t turn a blind eye. Turning a blind eye is the same as saying DV is acceptable. “
