Kevin Bartlett’s bike shop was broken into in the early hours of Tuesday after a thief smashed the glass front door with a hammer.
When inside, police said, the hooded bandit stole a Scott Aspect 960 mountain bike valued at about $700.
The incident was captured on public CCTV which is now being reviewed by officers.
It’s the second time the business has been targeted this year.
“It’s one of those things that you don’t know how you’d feel until it happens to you,” he said.
“It’s gut wrenching, this is your livelihood and someone has invaded it.
“It leaves an empty feeling.”
While he’s considering extra security measures, Mr Barlett said the type of theft was difficult to stop.
“You can’t barricade your business,” he said.
Anyone with information on the theft should call Tamworth Police on 6768 2999.
