Few, if any, have done as much to celebrate the life and music of Peter Allen as Todd McKenney, who delighted audiences as the original star of the musical The Boy From Oz and who has been shaking Allen’s maracas in various guises ever since.

Twenty years on, Todd pays homage to Peter Allen in Todd McKenney Sings Peter Allen: The Piano Sessions, at Capitol Theatre on December 1 at 8pm.
Here Allen invites fans to get up close and personal in an intimate, relaxed setting: just Todd himself, Michael Rohanek on grand piano, Ralph Marshall on bass, additional vocals from the amazing Lisa Callingham, and Allen’s fantastic songs. The Piano Sessions just completed two sold out nights at The Opera House, Sydney.
As well as singing all of Allen’s biggest hits including Not The Boy Next Door, (I Go to) Rio, I Honestly Love You, Tenterfield Saddler and I Still Call Australia Home, he will tell stories about meeting Allen and playing him on stage.
Audiences are encouraged to ask questions and even score him if they like (bring your judge’s score cards – he’ll cop it sweet!). It’s all about having fun with a lot of laughs, a few poignant moments and some great music.
Tamworth Dramatic Society’s latest production I Am My Own Wife. Based on a true story, and inspired by interviews conducted by playwright Doug Wright over several years, tells the fascinating tale of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a real-life German transvestite who managed to survive both the Nazi onslaught and the repressive East German Communist regime.
The play is a one-man show, so one person plays all 40 characters. This lends an interesting perspective, as all characters, from Doug Wright himself down to a Stasi official, are acted out in the costume of Charlotte. See this moving piece at Capitol Theatre on November 24 through to 26 November over four performances.
Directed by Mark Daly and playing the many roles within this story is the very experienced local actor Daniel Gillett, this one-man play is brought to us by Tamworth Dramatic Society.
