“I have to thank Lola (Weidemann) for the drive – the horse felt like a champion in the race,” O’Brien said.
Weidemann was equally as complimentary.
“He drove her a treat.
“He did the right thing - he did what I told him to do and he just kept kidding to her and got her home so I would like to say thanks Bruce for a great drive,” she said.
With Zac McCool (Danny Gatt-Bouquet) leading the field Miss Catalina raced outside the leader.
“I was in the death seat and she (Miss Catalina) just kept going – she was on the bit the whole way and travelled like a real good horse,” O’Brien said.
“In the home straight I knew I had the horse on the inside of me (Zac McCool) covered - I was just worried about what was coming behind me and I wasn’t looking back to find out.”
“Many years ago I raced here at Tamworth on the old track and I think I was about 19 when I came here and now this year I am 60 - got married - had a heart operation – it has been a fantastic year”.
Miss Catalina was a metre winner over Zac McCool with Kool Kenny (Danny Scanlan) four metres away third.
O’Brien almost drove a double for the night but had to settle for second the final heat of the night behind fellow reinsman Danny Gibson and A Rocknroll Legacy.
The final leg of the series, Gibson came to Tamworth after driving a winner in the Wagga and Parkes heats.
“He rolled along nicely in the race,” Gibson said of A Rocknroll Legacy.
“What the horse has done and what the horses around him were doing in the race I was quietly confident - without being overly confident - and I kept his mind on the job” added Gibson.
“I knew would be there at the finish”
A Rocknroll Legacy had a head win over Chill Of The Night (Bruce O’Brien) and Artistica Uno (David Caffyn) 32 metres away third.
“I love going around in the series, love the fact it is bringing people together it’s a wonderful concept – it’s going places”.
