Pip and Brett Gorman are the new owners of the old Jenkins St guesthouse and have swapped the hustle and bustle of Sydney for the bush.
While it hasn’t been a guesthouse for almost a decade, the couple hope to get the place up and running next year.
Mr Gorman is a former police officer and pastry chef, while Mrs Gorman worked in sales, and while they had ventured to Nundle before they said they would have driven past ‘the old bank building’ many times before it came up for sale through RuralCo.
“We stayed at the Dag Sheep (Station) over the June long weekend and I was thinking I’d love to move up here,” Mr Gorman said.
“I was scrolling through the real estate and all of a sudden, this popped up and I sent Pip a message and said I think I’ve found the perfect place for us and she started screaming.
“We rode past it about a dozen times, but didn’t notice it. We found it by sheer accident.”
The historic building was built in 1935, with its history among the many attractions for the new buyers, who hope to also open a cafe style restaurant at the guesthouse.
“It’s the history, it’s not your normal guesthouse, it’s got lots of character and it has a story behind it,” Mrs Gorman said.
“We’ll get it up and running as a B&B to start off with and it’s still approved as one. It was a restaurant as well, and apparently it was quite a top restaurant,” Mr Gorman said.
Colleen Johnson sold the six bedroom, four bathroom building, admitting it was time to go.
“It’s a little large for me. It's been lovely living here, I’ve never lived in a village before and it’s been really nice,” she said.
Already, Nundle’s newest residents say they are settling in well.
“We are just looking forward to the next stage in our lives. It’s a new chapter for us. Leaving the hustle and bustle and the terrible traffic of Sydney, I’m so excited,” Mrs Gorman said.
