Just before 2pm on Wednesday, police were patrolling the Gwydir Highway, between Inverell and Glen Innes, when they attempted to stop a Mazda sedan for a random breath test.
Police claim the vehicle failed to stop, and officers initiated a short pursuit which was terminated due to safety concerns.
A short time later, police found the vehicle on Sturmans Road at Swan Vale.
Police will allege the vehicle drove through a fence on to a near-by property. Officers arrested the man and woman after a short foot pursuit, and police said the woman was holding a child at the time.
The 28-year-old man and 30-year-old woman were arrested and taken to Glen Innes Police Station.
The man was charged with drive in a manner or speed dangerous, driving whilst disqualified, Skye’s law police pursuit, driving under the influence of a drug, malicious damage and enter enclosed lands.
He was refused bail and is due to appear at Armidale Local Court on Thursday.
The woman was released without charge, police said.
