Police from the Tamworth Target Action Group (TAG) spotted the 36-year-old on Tuesday morning and attempted to stop him before he fled on foot, officers said.
Extra police were called in and a perimetre established around a block in Kent St.
Officers cornered the 36-year-old man and he was charged with resisting police, assaulting officers, having custody of an offensive implement as well as outstanding warrants.
He was refused bail to front Tamworth Local Court.
