The Brad Smith-coached sides’ best result was an 8-5 win over Riverina in their second game on Wednesday.
“It was a good win for the boys,” Smith said.
“They really hit the ball hard and a lot of heads up base running, which obviously won us the game.”
Always a challenging week for the boys, with no real regular competition and playing against sides that play regularly, Smith said they do really well.
“I was very proud of the boys and the way they conducted themselves throughout the week,” he said.
Narrabri Public’s Noah Teer was judged by his peers as their best while school-mate Toby Mitchell-Smith was Smith and manager Judy Thomas’ pick as the most valuable player for the week.
“He’s come a long way in the last two years.
“He did a really good job catching. He didn’t let a lot go through to the back of the net,” Smith said.
Another highlight of the week was a 7-4 loss to Combined Independent Schools, who ended up finishing fifth.
“It was a winnable game.
“We were in front going into the last dig. We got two of the three out but just couldn’t close it out,” Smith said.
They also only went down by three runs to eventual champions Sydney West.
“It was a really good effort,” he said.
They had the Sydneysiders worried for a while, their coach commenting to Smith at one point that they’d had to put their number one pitcher on.
