The “Re-stitching Culture” exhibit features yarning dolls created locally through the Gomeroi Gaaynggal program, as well as the six national Cornhusk dolls from Canada and the Siyazama Zulu dolls of South Africa.

Gallery director, Bridget Guthrie, said the exhibition is a fantastic display of the Gomeroi Yarning Dolls and will educate visitors on their importance.

“The workshops where these dolls were created are more than just an artistic outlet,” she said. 

“They allow participants to share their experiences with each other, creating a journey of healing.

“The space that is created by yarning circles is culturally safe for Elders and young people to come together to re-stitch old identities and meanings, and find new ways to bind oneself together.”

The exhibition will officially open from Friday, September 22 and run until October 28 at the Tamworth Regional Gallery.
