After losing to OVA in 2016, FC saved one of its best performances of the year for grand final day as the side dismantled the Kougarettes at Scully Park.
A tight first half saw Tamworth FC take a 1-0 lead in the Tamworth District Football women’s first grade final before the side went on with the job to clinch a convincing 5-0 victory.
Tamworth FC coach Wayne May said the players were thrilled to be able to turn around last year’s result.
“Last year they got a case of the nerves in the grand final. They talked about that and got rid of those nerves this year,” May said.
“They’ve only lose about one grand final in about eight years. They’re a talented bunch and they’ve improved as the year has gone on.”
May mentioned Georgina Hauville, Kahla May, Rebecca Kenny and Courtney Slater amongst the best players for his side.
The coach also reserved special praise for a hard-working young gun.
“I cant miss Skye Nicholson, she’s 14 years old and she won three grand finals on the day,” May said.
“She’s played under 14s and reserve grade all year and also bubbles up into first grade.
“She’s a machine.”
In the reserve grade grand final, Tamworth FC was even more dominant.
The FC side took that one out 9-2 against Kootingal to start the day off in fine fashion before the first grade side got the job done.
