The soccer competition will see 20 teams from across NSW fight it out and Tamworth coach Wayne May said he had some tough decisions to make.
“We’ll get five training sessions in before [the competition starts],” he said.
“We’ll get the girls to know each other and blend some combinations together and see where they'll all play because they all like to be strikers these days.”
The positioning of the side isn’t the first hard call May’s had to make after whittling down the squad to just 16 players.
“When we did the trials, the 24 of them all had their own set of skills, it was pretty tough picking 16 out of the 24 but they're all keen, that’s the main thing,” May said.
May said the matches were bound to be tough but said “I wouldn't have picked them if I didn't think they were up to it.”
He was excited to see the competition take place and thought it was a natural progression for women‘s soccer in the country.
“It’s just giving women a chance to play teams from another areas and just see where we’re standing,” May said.
“The women's competition isn’t really new now, it’s been established for a few years and it’s built up now to 11 full teams.
“It used to be six-a-side but now we have a first and reserve grade competition which is great for this town.”
Armidale will also field a side at the cup on September 23-24 in Speers Point.
