Tamworth Veterans Cricket will hold its first training run on Sunday at the Chaffey Park nets from 10am with the potential of 100 cricketers turning out.
Publicity officer Greg Kellett asked returning players not to overexert themselves to prevent the after-effects of the run – which most participants are likely to feel – from worsening.
“Generally when you get to this age, it [soreness] comes two days later,” Kellett said.
“I would expect on Tuesday, guys will be trying to get out of bed but they won’t [be able to], they'll find it hard.”
The introduction of the over 50s age group has seen Tamworth Veteran Cricket’s numbers swell.
Tamworth will field four teams – which will be chosen from the upcoming training sessions – at the state carnival at Armidale on October 27-30.
The over 60s side will kick of its campaign first with matches starting in September while dates for the over 70s matches are still to be confirmed.
A number of players will be out to continue their good form after prizes were recently handed out to Tamworth’s top-performing veteran cricketers.
