It will allow the TJC to showcase their new general manager – Kay Jeffrey.
Jeffrey, who has handled marketing and sponsorship at the club for three years, was acting general manager for the last three months.
Such has been her performance, the TJC decided to make it permanent, confirmed TJC chairman Greg Birtles.
“The last three months we have been very impressed by her performance,” Birtles said.
“She has a lot of great ideas for the club and a lot of ideas to grow and develop the club, particularly with more community participation.
“She, as we do, has a genuine desire to get our crowds back.”
Jeffrey said she is “excited by the challenge”.
She has been working with former TJC GM Helen Sinclair, and this mother of two girls (Jessica and Breeanna) is hoping Sunday’s family day at the racecourse – with free entry, face painting, jumping castles and market stalls – is the perfect start to her new role.
Married to Andrew Jeffrey, she had a background in equestrian events, such as eventing and showing, before she took the marketing and sponsorship job at the club.
“I’ve been here for a while now and expanded my racing knowledge,” she said.
“I love racing and I’m looking forward to the challenge.
“Looking forward to growing the club and increasing the community involvement.
“I want to share it with Tamworth locals. It’s a great sport with great atmosphere.”
She said Sunday’s meeting will be an outstanding day of racing with eight $30,000 Showcase races distributing almost a quarter of a million dollars in prize money.
“It’s going to have a great atmosphere … Something for everyone. So if you’ve never been [to the racecourse] it’s a chance to come along, experience and enjoy it all.”
The first of eight TAB races starts at 12.45pm.
Meanwhile, Racing NSW has increased prize money for the 2018 Country Championships and Provincial Championships Series, along with increases in prize money for the respective finals, to $500,000.
