Winning over audiences with her infectious personality, raw and personal songwriting ability and distinctive vocal delivery, she could be one of the best kept secrets of the West Australian music scene.
She’s not long released the first single and film clip off the release – Sun Will Come Out Again, it’s a song of hope and overcoming the challenges of mental illness.
The team from Klik Productions shot the clip at the abandoned maximum security division of the old Morisset Hospital.
The Murphy Brothers – Chris and Courtney, join musicians Ian Simpson, Mike Hagerty Jr, Travis Bryant, and Mark Donohoe on the album for five tracks.
Atkins said she was delighted with the response to the release.
“The EP has been out for a couple of weeks now and it’s doing well, I’ve had lots of positive feedback,” she said.
”The songs are a mixture from what I’ve written in the last year to a couple of years ago.
“I started recording in June last year and did a soft release at home in September and now have released it fully.”
Atkins said she found she’d matured during the song writing process.
“I think I’ve grown a lot in my performance and also my vocal ability,” she said. “I’m trying to improve my songwriting – it’s getting there.”
Atkins will return to the Tamworth Country Music Festival in January.
