Areas south of Tamworth in Duri were the hardest hit with reports of torrential rain, strong winds of up to 76km/h were recorded near Nundle and Niangala and large hailstones scattered the district.
But there wasn’t much of the ‘wet stuff’ in it according to weather bureaus with Tamworth receiving 0.4mm of rain.
The area is in for frosty conditions for the rest of the week, with a cold snap set to hit hard on the weekend with temperatures to drop to -3 degrees.
Possible snowfall was forecast on Wednesday for Guyra and Glen Innes while Armidale was also predicted to receive snow at 1100 metres or above.
