The AFL North West Tamworth derby on Saturday was a comfortable one for the Kangaroos – who won 25.25 (175) to 2.2 (14) against the Swans – but one player’s celebrations were more akin to a grand final win opposed to a 161-point victory.
Kangaroos coach Ben Mitchell put Carl Frazier in an unfamiliar position up front and the full-back saluted by registering on the scoreboard for the first time since 2014.
“I threw Carl Frazier up forward, he hasn't kicked a goal in three years and he kicked three in a quarter,” Mitchell said. “I was pretty happy with that and he showed he can play in the forward line as well.”
Frazier was outshone on the scoreboard by Rhett Graham, who bagged five majors, and the Kangaroos best on ground, according to Mitchell.
“He played up front in the last, he’s got a pretty big boot on him. Whenever he’s around 50 out, I tell him to have a go,” Mitchell said.
“He’s probably got the best skills in our team and is quick enough to get clear.”
Inaccuracy was a problem for the Roos in the first half. The side kicked 10 goals and 16 behinds before the problem was rectified.
Boe Gilmour was strong for the Roos while best for the Swans were Edward George, Thomas Kelly, Joshua Mckenzie, Ross Fraser, Harrison Kelly and James Dunston.
Nomads won the other game 14.13 (97) against Inverell 7.8 (50).
