On Thursday evening, June 29, families with primary school aged children that rely on a walker or wheelchair to get around are encouraged to get along to the Tamworth Sports Dome, between 5pm and 7pm, to try a range of modified sports and activities.
The Come and Try Session has been organised by the creator of the group, Mrs Veronica Filby, to see if there are families in the community that would like to be involved in a weekly sports and activities program.
“We hope to offer a one hour program each week during school terms at the Sports Dome where primary school aged kids can come along in their wheelchair or walker and engage in lots of fun activities,” Mrs Filby said.
“The program will encourage not only the children in wheelchairs and walkers, but also their siblings, parents or carers to also run around and have fun and learn lots of new skills.”
Peter King, Sports Program Manager for Cerebral Palsy Alliance in Sydney will be running the Come and Try Session.
The sports program is still looking for a major sponsor to assist with hire costs at the Sports Dome and Mrs Filby can be contacted on 0427 000 633.
The Lions Club of Tamworth has donated $1000 to the group to purchase shirts for all the children to wear when they play.
The program will commence in Term 3 if there is enough interest.
