They’ll be competitive.
- Pitt on Tamworth One
Tamworth One will be made up majorly of top-age players to compete in division one while Tamworth Two is more of a development side to give the young players a taste of playing at the level and will compete in division three.
Tamworth One manager Russell Pitt said his side was aiming for a semi-final finish.
“They’ll be competitive,” Pitt said.
“They placed sixth last year in the 15s but last year our team was predominantly made up of 13 and 14 year olds.
“When we played the equivalent in the 13s, we placed equal third so we hope to be just as competitive and try to grab a spot in the finals.”
While Tamworth Two won’t have the size or experience of their older counterparts, coach Garry Littlejohns said his players more than made up for that in enthusiasm and skill.
“You go to the state championships and everyone’s enthusiastic, that’s the challenge so we just have to rely on our skill and play smarter than other sides rather than physically,” Littlejohns said.
Both sides will play four games over Friday and Saturday before finals on Sunday. Tamworth One takes on Sydney South first while Tamworth Two meets Central Coast Two in its opener.
