Despite leading 2-nil at half-time, Services coach Kimmy McLean thought their second half was again a lot better than their first.
“Once again it was just our passing,” McLean said, although they didn’t get as much reward as they would have liked.
Olympians had the better of the early play but couldn’t get past Services keeper Michelle Collins.
She just blunted everything they threw at her.
“The first 10-15 minutes we weren’t quite switched on,” McLean said.
“We were that step behind and passing it to them.”
They were rushing passes and making easy mistakes.
Defensively they were also probably not tight enough, McLean said. The second half they fixed that up.
“The big thing was communication in defence,” she said.
Collins was great for them in goals. Taneisha Donnelly also worked hard up front, McLean said.
Olympians coach Andrew Farmilo was “pretty happy” with how his side played but frustrated by their inability to find the back of the net.
“It’s just our finishing. We did enough to score goals,” he said.
Particularly early.
“The first 10 minutes we dominated but we couldn’t score a goal,” he said.
If they could have scored then it might have been a bit different, he said, but then Services got a turnover and scored and their heads went down. They eventually managed to jag a goal through Jane Makome.
