THERE’S something about small schools that Chris Jackson adores.
The dedicated educator is the newly appointed principal of Nemingha Public School and he’s settling well into the role after a long tenure at Wallabadah.
He’s been in the teaching industry for more than 30 years and while Nemingha might be a bigger school, he says its got a small school heart.
“I’m loving it, my experience has been in small schools in my 30-odd years of teaching,” Mr Jackson said of his first couple of weeks on the job.
“To come to a bit of a bigger school that is very community orientated, it’s like the small schools but there’s more kids.
“I’ve been in the classrooms and taken classes and I still love getting into the classroom.”
“Nemingha is a very community minded school, the parents are very actively involved in the school.”
Mr Jackson said he had looked forward to the challenge of being involved with a bigger school and hoped to help shape a passion and sense of responsibility for learning among the 200 students enrolled at the school this year.
“I’m hoping to build on what the school currently has got in place,” he said.
“Learning goals and success criteria is a way we are looking at the children taking responsibility for their learning. I’d like to continue that, I’m very happy with how the children are perceiving their own learning."
