By the time the full-time siren had sounded, the Magpies were fielding far from their best 13, according to coach Nick Ehsman.
“We had a lot of injuries that killed us on the day,” he said.
“We lost Sam Schiffmann (for the season), which was all our go forward on that right edge. So that is going to hurt us for the rest of the year as well, but there were some good things to take out of it.
“By the end of it we had all four of our reserve grade players playing on the field. We just had that many injuries on the day.
“Everyone was falling left, right and centre.”
The Boomerangs scored eight tries to Glen Innes’ five, and did so down players after a number players were sent off due to poor discipline.
Ehsman said while his injury-depleted team did well to keep up with the Boomerangs, it was disappointing they missed out on point scoring opportunities.
“The only thing we can be a bit worried about is they had 12 men for most of the game,” he said.
We lost the Boomerangs game in the last 10 minutes of the first half where they had 11 players and they scored two tries.

“If you have one man more than the other team, you should be beating them.
“We lost the Boomerangs game in the last 10 minutes of the first half where they had 11 players and they scored two tries.
“Basically, that is where we lost the game.”
The Magpies welcome the bye this weekend before they travel to Armidale to take on second-placed Narwan.
With Schiffmann out for the remainder of the season, the break gives Ehsman time to decide on who will line up for Glen Innes before their next game.
He said the team needs to put in an 80-minute performance, particularly for the game against Narwan, and it won’t happen unless players start turning up to training.
“We need to start getting players to training because we are just getting one side there and five other blokes that are turning up every week and it is just not helping myself and Tim Penn, the reserve grade coach,” he said.
"We are trying to fill two sides and only getting one there.”
