Undefeated in six matches heading into the encounter, Tamworth struggled without power forward Rhys Chillingworth, centre Cody Miller and small forward-cum-power forward Scott McGann.
“Our biggest guy was 6’3, 6’4,” Thunderbolts coach John Ireland said. “So we were undersized.
“It was always gonna be a tough task – it’s a long trip to Sydney.
“(But) without making excuses, they were very good and we weren’t able to execute the game plan effectively.”
Ireland was happy with Tamworth’s start but lamented the side’s inconsistent defensive effort.
“You can’t afford to switch off if you’re playing a good shooting side,” he said.
“If you switch off, they’ll hurt you.”
