Audience members are invited to embrace their inner rocker as Rock of Ages takes them back to the times of big bands with big egos playing big guitar solos and sporting even bigger hair!
This Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical features the hits of bands including Journey, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, and others.
Set in L.A.'s infamous Sunset Strip in 1987, Rock of Ages tells the story of Drew, a boy from South Detroit and Sherrie, a small-town girl, both in L.A. to chase their dreams of making it big and, of course, falling in love.
The production boasts a cast of 40 rockers and an “arsenal” of very experienced rock band members – not in the orchestra pit this time – but on stage as part of the cast.
For those who have seen the movie (which is slightly different to the live show) you would remember the stellar line up of stars including Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin, Diego Boneta and Julianne Hough. The local version includes Dave Callinan as Stacee Jaxx, Lara Northey as Sherrie, Ryan Saban as Drew, Aaron Jones as Lonny, Phil Blamey as Dennis, Alana Johnson as Regina, Tim Bosse as Hertz Klinemann, Mitchell Lewin as Franz, Sean McInnes as The Mayor and Ann Walsh as Justice.
This Tamworth Musical Society production enlisted the talents of musical director Todd Power with his assistant, Samara Redman, who have been rehearsing with the powerhouse cast and band for the last three months as has choreographer Sequoya Oldman, taking the cast back to the good old 1980s.
For the audience, it’s going to be like going to a rock concert – with a storyline of course. It is big, bold and boisterous.
The show contains some course language and sexual references.
Tickets are available at entertainmentvenues.com.au or by calling 6766 2028, or visiting the Box Office at Capitol Theatre and The Big Golden Guitar.
