The Tri-Colours will be one of 45 club and school teams competing in what is recognised as the largest primary-school-aged carnival in the country.
The club has enjoyed an increase in numbers in the U12s this season and will have a full team attending the carnival for the first time for a few years.
“It’s the biggest numbers we’ve had for a couple of years,” Tri-Colours president Tim Elliott said.
Last year they had to combine with Inverell.
Elliott said his boys played and loved it.
“The first thing they wanted to do was go back this year,” he said.
“They get to stay overnight and camp with their mates and live and breath rugby for the weekend.”
They also have the opportunity to play teams they otherwise wouldn’t.
Among their Division 5 opponents are a team from Queensland and two Sydney club sides.
The weekend will also be a great warm-up to the Central North junior season, which gets underway at Walcha on April 30.
Elliott said registrations overall in the U12s the biggest they have been for a couple of years, which is encouraging.
They would though like a few more in the U8s, U10s, and U14s, with not quite enough to make a full team.
The Tri-Colours train on Thursday’s from 4.30pm at Tamworth Rugby Park, and any interested players are more than welcome to come along.
