Tamworth Family Support Service (TFSS) helped 202 homeless youth aged 16 to 25 in the last financial year, but team leader Joely Brennan said the service is working on an early intervention program for local schools.
Mrs Brennan said the program could help with skills such as filling out rental applications.
Wednesday marks Youth Homelessness Matters Day across Australia and TFSS hopes the awareness campaign will remind locals the issue “is just as prevalent in Tamworth” as metropolitan areas.
Mrs Brennan said TFSS will donate “care packages” with toiletries and non-perishables to its current clients to mark the day.
