The Scone trainer has five runners, including a couple of juveniles having their first runs, but is waiting to see what the weather does.
Northam’s gelding, After All That, finished second to Free Standing in Saturday’s $400,000 Country Championships Final (1400m) when the 40-1 Coffs Harbour-trained winner caused a major upset.
Six horses crossed the line within a length of each other with After All That finishing powerfully for Robert Thompson and Rod Northam.
200-1 chance Not For Export was third for an ecstatic Dar Lunn and Paul Messara’s Caerless Choice fourth.
Rod Northam said After All That didn’t have too bad a run but “ran into a bit of traffic”.
“It took him a little while to get through but when he did he finished well,” Northam said.
He will give him a couple of weeks off now and bring him back to race in the Scone Cup Carnival.
“We’ll find something there for him,” he said.
He is keeping a watch on the weather with his two unraced juveniles and resuming Hot Vinni, but not expecting “too much” from them.
Racing from 12.15pm.
