The Northwest Church campuses in each town will be performing acts of kindness with “no strings attached”.
In Gunnedah and Guyra, church members will be walking around the CBD on Saturday, striking up conversations with people and giving out fuel cards.
In Tamworth, the Northwest Church has given sums of money to various cafes and eateries to cover the bills of various diners on Saturday and Sunday.
Gunnedah’s Northwest minister Mike Matumaini said the churches were making a “statement” through the acts of generosity.
“We want to find ways to tell our community that we care,” he said.
“What we say is, ‘We are a church in the community, for the community’.
“We are not a church within four walls. We are a church outside the walls. We are not just here for songs and sermons.”
Mr Matumaini said the churches have been performing the acts of kindness for two years in Guyra and Tamworth with a positive response but it was the first time in Gunnedah as the campus wasn’t opened until late 2016.
“[It’s] so the community knows we are giving back,” he said.
“There are so many ways you can tell a community that you’re there and this is one of ways we can tell the Gunnedah community we care about them.
“We chose the fuel card because we know it will be a plus on someone’s budget this week and it will be a blessing on someone’s life.”
