The Quirindi export had just led his team for victory for the first time at Super Rugby level.
Carter produced a tireless performance as his ACT Brumbies edged out Western Force 25-17 in Canberra on Friday night.
The WA side, minus Alex Newsome, looked poised to cause an upset, but late tries to Kyle Godwin and Robbie Abel sealed victory.
"It's a massive relief, we've got a young squad at the moment and we're learning how to win," Carter said post-match.
“We managed to grind it out and it's a good win for us.
“I think we're pretty determined to never lose, it's good to get the 80-minute performance.
"It's massive for us at the moment, but we have to realise we're not world-beaters yet. We have to build on that and keep moving forward.”
The result means the Brumbies are now top of the Australian conference, following losses by the Reds and Waratahs.
