Ellicott received his award from SW assistant manager Bob Barber last week, having been recognised for his tireless voluntary work behind the scenes at the TTC.
“Mal has been involved in triathlon for more than 10 years and does a power of work for the local club,” Barber said.
“I actually knew him when he took on an administrative role at the now defunct RSL Soccer Club, but then he got involved with the Tamworth Triathlon Club.
“He’s the type of bloke who is setting up tables, putting up barriers, generally doing whatever job is needed behind the scenes without any fuss.”
Ellicott receives a $150 voucher and a special certificate signifying the honour bestowed upon him.
The Community Sports Award began in November 2015 with renowned Tamworth athletics coach Wally Warner the inaugural recipient.
Other past winners have included netball’s Lyn O’Brien, cricket and rugby union’s Simon Hood, junior rugby league dynamic duo Patty Dewhurst and Bev Thomas, soccer’s Alf Small and legendary rugby league identity Ron Surtees.
In more triathlon news, the Tamworth club will stage a race on Sunday at the Kootingal War Memorial Swimming Pool.
Registration is 6.30am for a 7am start.
The long course event is a 300m swim, 18km ride and 4km run, while a junior race is also expected to be held.
