Growing up around Ashley and Moree, Rebekah’s love of the rodeo scene started from a young age.
After seeing a Facebook post promoting the National Rodeo Council of Australia’s call out for entrants, she decided to give it her all.
“We have to raise $5,000 to be in the running for the title of Rodeo Queen which goes towards the winner and the rodeo council, who has a big emphasis on animal welfare,” she said.
Since entering in Mid 2016 the 20-year-old held a successful raffle at the National Finals Rodeo in Dalby, created calendars to sell and has a cash raffle running around Moree with the first prize of $5,000.
Rebekah believed the competition would be a good opportunity for her to have some fun, meet new people and boost her confidence.
The rodeo queen entrants will be judged in September where the 10 passionate women will be assessed on their personality, appearance and horsemanship.
“The crowned queen will attend various rodeos around Australia next year and help to promote the events, and also travel to America and Canada for the Calgary Stampede,” she said.
The trip includes 21 days overseas attending rodeos in Canada, Dallas Fort Worth, Denver, Cheyenne Frontier Days and Los Angeles in America.
“I love the rodeo scene because it is like one big community, basically one big family. I always have so much fun and everyone works so hard to prepare and run the events,” Rebekah said.
The local entrant is one third of the way through her fundraising and hopes to hit the $5,000 mark before September.
“Kader Boot Co, MB and Co, Rustic Hyde Skincare Australia, Allied Beef, Oakies Puppies and the McMahon family are my sponsors from the wider community and have been a big help.”
Rebekah currently studies secondary education via distance through University of Southern Queensland.
