The Paul Perry-trained five-year-old chestnut was ridden a treat by English jockey Rachel King, tracking leader Zadok The Priest until the turn when he took over and defied any other horse to run him down.
At the post he had a long head separation to runner-up Adaboy Ross with Jeremy Sylvester’s Bayview Emperor a length and a quarter away third.
Earlier in the day Perry had won with two-year-old Mr Grumpy, The Graft and Time Stripper.
King partnered Mr Grumpy, and The Graft to give her a treble for the day.
The 26-year-old has been in Australia for three years but “riding for just over a year”.
“I’ve ridden about 45 winners this season,” she said.
“And I’m leading the NSW apprentices premiership, so it’s been a good season.”
She is apprenticed to Gai Waterhouse and Anthony Bott at Randwick but rides around the country.
“Paul Perry was one of the first outside trainers to give me a go,” she said.
“They’ve been very good to me, supported me. I think I’ve ridden the most winners for them than any other trainer. But they’ve put me on from the start, nice to win a Country Cup like this for them.”
Her first Quirindi Cup, it was also her first Country Cup and one of her easiest rides.
“We had a great run, just sat off the leader,” she said.
“He’s a very tough horse, likes a good fight.”
It was Secret Web’s sixth win in 33 starts and his best too, said Paul’s son Shannon Perry.
“I never thought he’d win a race like the Quirindi Cup,” he said.
“Didn’t think he had the ability.”
However the Perry’s got him fit and King did the rest to give Perry, he thought, his fourth Quirindi Cup.
“Country Cove, Supperman and another one we can’t think of just yet,” Shannon said.
“So just to come here and win the Cup as well as three other races on the days is great for us. I remember coming here as a kid and running around on the grass. It’s a real thrill to come back now and win the Cup.”
