I am compelled therefore to reply to Bruce Watson’s letter from Thursday 16/2/17 titled Same Sex Marriage Debate.
Over 400 words where he is very critical of Tiernan Brady for” promoting emotional and not rational debate” on marriage equality and yet not one argument emotional or otherwise to justify an Australian law that discriminates on sexual preference.
Personally I feel that any law that discriminates on the basis of race, gender, religion or in this case sexual preference is wrong.
It diminishes us as a nation and changing this will not cause the end of time as seen in all the countries that have had the wisdom to do this before Australia.
I was at a recent marriage celebration where the celebrant who obviously had a gay son had to read out the marriage act that restricts marriage to “ a man and a woman”.
He was shamed by this as was I and the couple getting married.
Ultimately it is a slap in the face to those Australians who have a loving relationship and want to have the same laws apply to them as other Australians.
Not too much to ask for I would have thought and certainly not a lot to debate over.
