The former Calrossy student now resides in the Macedon Hills in rural Victoria with husband Alex Wilcox. The pair are partners in award winning Melbourne wine bar Bellota as well as the Prince Wine Stores, although Mrs Manning has always had an affinity with words after studying literature and communications before going on to work as an editor and publishing manager.
The book centres on two women, one in medieval France and the other in modern Tasmania whose stories are brought together by a set of old copper pots.
The inspiration for the book hit the keen cook while she was foraging for pippies in Tasmania before, taking flight on a tour of Chateau de Brie in France.
“It had a maiden’s room at the top of a turret and it got me wondering about what may have happened there,” Mrs Manning said.
The book is out March 27.
