Ms Mitchell reflected on the significance of taking on the new roles in Cabinet.
“I’m truly humbled and honoured,” she said. “Getting out in the community is important to me. I want to be a great representative … for the whole North West.”
Namoi Council Joint Organisation, of which Moree Plains Shire Council is a part of, backed the appointment of a local to the role.
“Coming from Gunnedah, I’m sure Sarah Mitchell will be aware that expanding early childhood education opportunities is more difficult in rural and regional areas than in metropolitan areas, and I hope she can help to close the gap,” chair Andrew Hope said.
“Our first nation people suffer disadvantage in many areas and any improvements she can make in this area will be most welcome.”
