A SEVERE thunderstorm forced businesses in Gunnedah to close their doors early on Australia Day.

The town was pelted by rain with 26mm pelting down in just 15 minutes on Thursday afternoon.
McDonald’s Gunnedah had to be evacuated as heavy rains saw a deluge of water flood the indoor cafe area.
Water was spilling from the roof of the cafe, as management were instructing customers to vacate the indoor seating area.
The restaurant area is closed, however, McDonald’s confirmed the drive thru area was still open.
The Namoi Valley Independent also had to shut up shop after the office came off second best in the rain.
Locals recorded 12mm in seven minutes and it kept falling as the severe thunderstorm rolled across town.
One resident lost their trampoline along Conadilly St, with it coming to rest on the back of a house.
Storm water drains across town were backed up and struggled to cope with the downpour.
