A senior constable was treated for lacerations and bruising after he was tripped by a man while attempting to make an arrest in Oxley Vale about 7.30am on Tuesday.
Two men and a woman have been charged in connection to the incident while a fourth is still on the run.
Oxley Inspector Matt French told The Leader police were called to reports of a brawl near the corner of Drummond Rd and Westow Cr and were confronted by a hostile and aggressive group.
He said officers tried to calm the group before the officer was allegedly assaulted and extra back-up called.
”It will be alleged the 18-year-old male pushed him before fleeing on foot,” he said.
”Another male tripped the officer causing him to fall on the roadway and he suffered grazing and bruising.”
The officer was treated by Ambulance paramedics at the Tamworth Police Station and completed his shift.
