The four were recently named in the NSW Gen Blue Under 19s squad.
The squad is part of a revamped elite development program with the under 20s and under 19s being split. The 20s will focus on the national 20s competition, while the 19s will take a more developmental approach with a view to filtering into the 20s next year.
The boys have been training with the extended squad since late last year.
“We’ve been training pretty hard,” Windred said.
“We train two days a week and then every third week we train on a Saturday morning.”
“It’s been a lot of fitness and skills.”
It’s been good though.
They also, before they broke up for Christmas, got to train with the Waratahs, which was “pretty good” he said.
He, brother Lachlan and Abra are all Pirates juniors, while Size played for the premiership-winning Barraba (Farrer) U18s side last year. Also a star on the seven’s field, Size had a big end to last year, representing Australia in the World Schools Sevens, where they won a thrilling final 24-19 over the Samoan Barbarians.
He and the Windred’s have linked up with Northern Suburbs this season and are currently in pre-season with them, and hoping to crack the colts firsts.
“Hopefully we can all play firsts colts and work our way up to the higher grades,” Windred said.
