The body of Mark Anthony Haines, 17, was found on railway lines near the Warral silos on the outskirts of Tamworth, in January, 1988.
He had suffered massive head injuries.
A coronial inquest returned an open finding into the death in 1988 and no charges have ever been laid in relation to the case.
Despite police investigations into the case following the death, and in 2011 and 2016, Mr Haines’ family have refused to give up the quest for answers.
On the 29th anniversary of his death, Oxley police said on Monday that they had referred the matter to the State Crime Command to review the case, after several family members gathered at the Tamworth Police Station.
For years, Mr Haines’ uncle Don Craigie has maintained his nephew did not commit suicide, and has made several public appeals for information into the death.
