Now it its 31st year, the bush poetry competition will see competitors vying for more than $2000 in cash plus the famous Golden Damper trophies.
This year’s Golden Damper Awards will be held at the Tamworth Rugby Club in Marius Street, opposite Viaduct Park. Heats will be held on January 24, 26 and 27.,
The Finals will be on Saturday January 28. Each day’s events begin at 10.30am.
Admission to the daily heats is free whilst admission to Saturday’s finals is $5.
Prior to the event on Friday morning, at 10.15am, the winners of the written bush poetry competition, the ‘Blackened Billy Verse Competition’, will be announced and the winning poem will be read.
The ‘ABPA Golden Damper Awards’ competition is open to all performers and entries are still being accepted. Just email the Co-ordinator, Graeme Johnson, therhymerfromryde@bigpond.com , or turn up on Tuesday January 24 to register for a particular heat.
Entry forms are also available on the website of The Australian Bush Poets Association.
In the mean time, the Locomotive Line Dancers will hold a line dance social on Tuesday, January 17 at the Locomotive Hotel.
The event will begin at 10am with a $5 entry fee. Morning tea is included.
Country music visitors and interested locals are invited to join the line dancing fun.
