The debate was sparked by one resident who launched an online petition calling on Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) to fund an end-of-year event for locals, complete with fireworks.
Kirstyn Sampson’s petition has garnered more than 200 signatures and The Leader put the question to its readers.
In an online poll fetching 438 votes, 65.07 per cent of respondents said TRC should fork out for fireworks on December 31.
A decent contingent of voters said no (24.43 per cent) to council-funded crackers, while 10.5 per cent were happy with the amount of fireworks already served up in January.
Our readers had their say on Facebook too, with followers divided on the issue.
“Don't waste the money! I don't need my rates to go up again next year,” Lucas N Alisha Preston said.
“Yes!!! Stop saving it for the visitors!! Let's give something to the locals!!” Casey Smith said.
