Detectives and forensic police combed the Rice Construction Group and AJ Grant Group shopfront off Bridge St after a shot was fired through the window about 1.15pm on Friday.
Two workers were inside when the shot pierced the window but neither were injured.
Police believe a firearm was involved but are awaiting the results of ballistic and forensic examinations.
“Preliminary investigations suggest a firearm was involved,” Oxley Detective Sergeant Jason Darcy told The Leader.
Detectives spoke to two workers inside as well as passersby and believe the shot was fired from a vehicle waiting at the intersection of Bridge and Denne Streets, near Tamworth Shoppingworld.
“Police are making a public appeal for information from the public for anyone that might have seen something at that intersection,” Detective Sergeant Darcy said.
“There was quite a number of cars at the intersection come and going but detectives specifically want to talk to two males seen driving in a white utility about 1.15pm, headed away from the CBD towards West Tamworth.”
Detective Sergeant Darcy said the intersection was busy at the time of the incident and believe someone saw something.

“If all the staff were inside at the time, it could have had fatal consequences,” he said.
“We need assistance from the community and would urge anyone with information to please contact Tamworth detectives.”
