The Montana cowboy was the only to ride all three of his bulls and claimed his first PBR Australia Montana Silversmith championship buckle.
He had leading in professed to loving competing in Tamworth after placing second his previous visit.
The Tamworth event was the first of the PBR Australia November Cups Series and saw fans pack out the Australian Equine Livestock and Events Centre.
Making his first appearance in Tamworth, Triplett’s travelling partner Nevada Newman won the first round with 84 points on L&M Rodeo’s Chain Reaction.
Triplett was only a quarter of a point behind with 83.75, with Queensland quartet Rohan Markham, Mitchel Paton, Harry Bridges and Budd Williamson were the only other cowboys to post scores.
Atherton’s Kurt Shephard topped the points in Round 2 and had Triplett to thank for his win after he pushed the button to challenge the 7.51secs the clock read, and bet $100 that Shephard made the buzzer.
The judges review found a successful ride, and with a score of 86.5 Shephard was awarded the round.
Triplett was again second, this time half a point behind with 86, making him only one of two cowboys to cover both their round bulls. Markham (Ravenshoe) was the other, ensuring his place in the championship round.
Eight cowboys went through to the championship round, but only three posted scores.
Competing at his first ever PBR Cup Series event, Townsville’s Braydon Wellby was the first with 81.25 on Dan Klabe’s Devil’s Dance.
Paton was the next to make the eight seconds, posting 85.5 on John Gill & Sons High Flying Akubra.
But in the final ride of the night Triplett came out and trumped them with 86.5 on Call Me Joe from TNR Bucking Bulls.
Hometown favourite Ethan Watts was bucked off both of his rides. Uralla’s Duncan Elks fared a bit better making time on his second for a score of 82.5.
The highest mark bull of the night went to L & M Rodeo’s Cocane bucking off Newman and scoring 44.5 points.
The series now moves on to Townsville and will return to Tamworth for a 10th straight year next November.
