K-2 attended the Red Hill Environmental Education Centre (Gulgong) and Dubbo Zoo excursion on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Thank you to Michelle and Mick from Red Hill who did a wonderful job presenting to our children, Craig, Patsy, Ashleigh and Tammy (our parents) who came along to support and to the P&C for subsidising this excursion so that every K-2 student was able to have an unforgettable experience. I would also like to congratulate K-2 students on their exemplary behaviour whilst representing our school. Please note our Presentation Day date will be Wednesday 30th of November. The children have been busily watering and caring for our vegetable garden so they are very excited to announce the next market stall will be on Monday 14th November at 3pm. There will be fruit, veggies and herbs for sale. Please come and support our children.

Principal's Message
This week intensive swimming has commenced. Thank you to everyone who returned the permission notes and money so quickly as this makes everything run so smoothly from our end. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us as the week progresses. Last Friday student leaders lead our Remembrance Day Service. This year 11 November marked the 98th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18). Each year on this day Australians observe one minute's silence at 11 am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. It was lovely to see some grandparents in attendance as well. I am very pleased to announce that Mrs Elliott will be continuing in her role as Instructional Leader through the Early Action for Success initiative. She will be working across two schools, three days at Westdale and two days with us each week. The contract for EAfS is set for three years. This Friday our Prep transition to school will continue with our 2017 Kinders arriving at 12pm until 3pm. Thank you, Leonie Byrne Principal

Respect
“Be beautiful if you can, wise if you want to... but be respected, that is essential.” We live in a diverse nation made up of many different cultures, languages, races, and backgrounds. That kind of variety can make all our lives a lot more fun and interesting, but only if we get along with each other. And to do that we have to respect each other. Treating people with respect makes your world a nicer place to live in, whether it’s at home, at school, or out in your community. And it’s easy - all you have to do is treat people the way you like to have them treat you. After recent world events it is even more important to show consideration and regard for yourself, others and the world around you. Today our students showed respect at our Remembrance Day service. It marks the day World War One ended, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, back in 1918. Nowadays people remember those who were lost in the war by holding a minute’s silence, and by wearing a red poppy which is how we remembered at school this morning on our front lawn. Wallaby Awards & Merit Badges Congratulations to Lochlan Cronin, Alexis Sweeney and Chloe Dent who received Wallaby Awards at last week’s assembly. Congratulations to Jayde Smith who received a Merit Badge at last week’s assembly.
Plot to Plate
This week in Plot to Plate we made Anzac biscuits. We found the recipe and the following information on the Australian War Memorial Website. “The origin and invention of the sweet Anzac biscuit is contested. Conventionally it is an eggless sweet biscuit made from oats and golden syrup, but these sweet biscuits are not the same rations that were supplied to soldiers in Gallipoli. From the 1920s on wards Australian recipe books nearly always included Anzac biscuits but exactly how this recipe became identified with Anzac, or the First World War, is unknown. They don’t have the shelf-life of hardtack biscuits but they do last a reasonable amount of time, so it is possible that they became known as a suitable inclusion in parcels of small luxuries and comforts that families and charitable organisations used to send overseas to soldiers.”

Walhallow Public School
Walhallow Public School celebrated Grandparents Day last week! We had a special assembly to welcome and thank our grandparents for coming to our school, with the children telling their grandparents how much they love them and putting on a play called Wombat Stew. We took our grandparents and visitors into our classroom to show them some of the learning we do at school - we showed them our writing books, read our readers to them, and showed them our interaction be work we do on the iPads. We ended a lovely morning with a special morning tea spent together. Thank you to our grandparents, parents and special visitors who came on Friday. It was great to see how proud our students were to show off their school and their classrooms.
