Since October 2015, Tamworth has seen a 10 per cent drop in new donors rolling up their sleeve to give blood.
In a bid to draw more numbers, the Red Cross has reduced the wait-time for donors who have recently gotten tattoos.
Tamworth man Tim Parsons decided to pitch-in for the cause on Thursday for the first time at age 32.
Mr Parsons said giving blood was something he had always considered, but just never got around to doing.
The first-time donor could not put a finger on what was keeping Tamworth locals away from the blood bank, guessing it was “probably laziness”. Red Cross put the donor dive down to a number of reasons, including a difficult cold and flu season, increased travel to malarial areas and people becoming more “time-poor”, as well as tattoos and medication.
