POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding a two-car crash near Gunnedah on Thursday which left one man in hospital.

Emergency services were called to the crash scene about 12km east of town on the Oxley Highway just before 10am.
The impact of the crash trapped a man, believed to be aged in his 70s for over an hour before he was cut from the wreckage by Ambulance crews and volunteers from the State Emergency Service.
Paramedics treated the driver for neck, back and chest pain. He was transported by road ambulance to Tamworth hospital and was believed to be in a stable condition.
Police are investigating reports the driver of a second vehicle left the scene moments after the crash.
