The swollen rivers and dams across the region received another soaking overnight Wednesday and on Thursday, but the forecast is looking more promising for the long weekend.

By 3pm Thursday, some of the biggest falls had been at the head of the Peel River at Nundle with 22.2mm, Weabonga with 17mm, Ogunbil with 11.2mm and Bendemeer with 10mm. Tamworth had 6.8mm.
The weather bureau had issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds for many districts, including the Northern Tablelands, and there were gusts of 59km/h in Armidale in the morning.
Real-time data from the Department of Primary Industries’ water office showed the rise and rise of levels at dams in the area, with Chaffey hitting 90 per cent of its capacity, Keepit at 84 per cent, Split Rock at 28 per cent and Copeton at 52 per cent.
The forecast for the end of the week and the long weekend was fairly even across the region: showers Friday; mostly sunny – or, at worst, partly cloudy and a small chance of rain – at the weekend; and a high chance of showers on Monday.
