Game times were shortened and day light hours extended on day two to get as many games finalised before more rain was expected to disrupt the sixth annual football action.

Normal Thursday scheduled events, except the Under 9s, were being shifted to Wednesday.

The traditional Wednesday free day has been moved to Thursday when between 20-30mils of water is expected in the gauge.

As one parent said philosophically: “we’ve had a good run for years.”

The Under 9s games would continue to be played on Thursday and Friday as scheduled but the venues may change.

Inverell grandparents Margaret and Ken Lavender watched grandson Nick from Grafton playing on Tuesday afternoon.

They said the cup was great fun.

“It does a lot for the town. I believe it must bring in a lot of money,”  Ken said.

Margaret agreed.

“Just going on what our crew buy when they are in town – unless they’re just window shopping,’ she said.

“They’d have bought something, don’t you worry about that,’’ Ken said.
