Mr Newton, the owner of Mick’s Meat House in the Northgate Shopping Centre, wasn’t able to progress to the national finals of the Sausage King comp, but his pork snags still reign supreme in the region.
The Tamworth butcher travelled to Bathurst for the Sausage King state finals on Saturday. While he didn’t come home with the crown, Mr Newton was proud of his achievement.
“It’s still good to get on the podium, I think there’s about 18 regions competing,” he said. “So third out of 18 is pretty good.”
Mr Newton is a old-hand when it comes to the Sausage King competitions, winning through to the state finals for five years running. His famous pork snag took him all the way to the national finals last year. Mr Newton hasn’t changed the recipe for his champion snag and maintains fresh, quality pork is the key to the product’s success.
