A man has been bailed after being charged with assaulting a referee at a rugby league grand final.

Tamworth police said the man had been arrested on Thursday in relation to the alleged assault.
“There was an arrest [Thursday] that goes to court on the 24th of October,” the spokesperson said.
“A male person was charged with common assault and affray from the 11th of September, 2016.
“This was in relation to an alleged assault, at the Group 4 grand final, on a referee.
“There are no further details we can give in relation to that.”
Police said the man had been given conditional bail.
