This year’s Book Week theme was” Australia; storyland”, and the fancy dress-ups reflected this. With everyone assembling in the hall and due to overwhelming attendance of guests, the hall became an open theatre. After a brief introduction and explanation of what Book Week is all about, students and teachers were soon dancing and moving to foot tapping, hand clapping music as they paraded in front of a huge group of parents who came out to support the students and their school for this exciting celebration. The costumes were very imaginative, with a few Elsas and Hulks to a year 6 Circe (she was an ancient Greek witch). A Grug, a group of Crayons, Wee Willie Winkie, Cats in Hats and Things. Genies, Rapunzels and even a ninja. After the wonderful display of characters in costumes, everyone enjoyed a sizzling sausage which was cooked on the barbeque, then placed on fresh bread topped with school grown coleslaw.,….always a welcome addition to a school festival.
During lunch time, the Student Representative Council, were overwhelmed by customers who were keen to purchase pre-loved library books and have a guess at the three guessing competitions that were also in full swing. All the bought books and posters from the library were carefully stowed away in bags to be enjoyed at home.
To compliment the whole days busy Book Week activities, in the afternoon, parents were invited to stay at school and visit their children’s classrooms. Short-listed books were read to the children with associated activities being completed. This was a fantastic day made special by staff and student participation and the support of our school community.
